Uppal police inspector shunted for ‘leaking’ CID plan to Hyderabad Cricket Association official

Hyderabad: Uppal police inspector Election Reddy was transferred on Thursday by Rachakonda police, amid suspicions that he leaked information about the Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) planned crackdown on Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) officials.

Sources said the CID, which is probing allegations of forgery and misuse of office against HCA members, had arrested five office-bearers last week, including HCA president A Jagan Mohan Rao. However, HCA secretary Devaraj Ramachander went off the radar soon after. During verification of call data records of the missing accused, CID officials reportedly found that the inspector had contacted Devaraj. Suspecting that Reddy may have tipped him off, police transferred him.

The inspector, however, claimed he had called Devaraj over a law and order issue related to an attempt to demolish a stadium wall. An internal inquiry is now underway to verify the claims.

On Thursday, the CID took custody of the five arrested HCA officials from Cherlapally jail for a six-day interrogation related to fund misappropriation, forgery, and other alleged irregularities.Meanwhile, Telangana Cricket Association general secretary D Guruva Reddy submitted a complaint to the CID, alleging that Jagan Mohan Rao awarded contracts for ticket sales and food supply to individuals linked to opposition party leaders. He also sought a probe into financial irregularities at HCA between 2019 and 2022, and named five office-bearers whose roles he believes should be investigated.
