US Fitness Influencer, Her Date Shot Dead By Estranged Husband in California: Police

Fitness coach Gloria Zamora and her date Hector Garduno were fatally shot in California. The suspected shooter, Zamora's estranged husband, was shot dead by police.

A 40-year-old fitness influencer was fatally shot along with her date outside a sushi restaurant in Fontana, Southern California, on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Gloria Zamora and Hector Garduno (43).

According to a report in ABC News, the suspected shooter was Zamora’s estranged husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga.

Reports suggest officers responded to a sound of gunshots in a shopping center parking lot and found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Zamora and Garduno were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fontana Police Officer Steve Reed told ABC News that Zamora and Lizarraga were in the process of divorcing.

“They were estranged; they were going through a divorce, which led to this," ABC News quoted Reed as saying. He added that Zamora had been at the restaurant for about an hour before the shooting, though it’s unclear how Lizarraga found her.

The violence drew the attention of several off-duty law enforcement officers in the area, including a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy.

“Apparently, he was driving on the street outside the shopping centre and heard the gunshots and saw what had happened, made a U-turn at the light, and got out of his vehicle and confronted the suspect," Reed further said

During the confrontation, Lizarraga was shot dead. Zamora, known for her fitness content and inspirational posts, had more than 150,000 followers on Instagram. Garduno, a father of four, is remembered as a hardworking and loving parent. Both leave behind grieving families and children. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Garduno’s family during this tragic time. Meanwhile, an investigation into the matter is underway.
