A person was killed after a projectile hit an area near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant on Saturday, Iranian media has reported. This marks the fourth time the site has been struck since the conflict began.

According to IAE, a member of the facility’s security team was killed after being hit by fragments from the blast. A building within the site was also damaged due to shockwaves and debris. Officials added that there has been no rise in radiation levels following the incident.

IAEA Chief Voices Alarm

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi expressed deep concern over the reported strike. He stressed that nuclear power plants and their surrounding areas must never be targeted under any circumstances.

Grossi warned that even non-reactor buildings at such sites may house vital safety equipment, making any attack in their vicinity extremely dangerous. He renewed his appeal for maximum military restraint, cautioning that continued strikes could increase the risk of a serious nuclear incident.

The latest incident adds to growing international unease over repeated strikes near sensitive nuclear infrastructure, as fears mount that continued escalation could trigger a wider environmental and humanitarian crisis.

International observers, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have so far reported no radiation leaks despite multiple incidents near nuclear infrastructure.
