Thousands of people in Iran on Monday reportedly received a cryptic text message in Persian from an anonymous sender, which read, “The US President is a man of action. Wait and see."

The message comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington. On Monday, Iran vowed to respond “ferociously" to any US strike and warned that even limited attacks would be considered acts of aggression.

US President Donald Trump had warned that he was considering a limited strike if Iran did not reach a deal on its nuclear programme.

The timing of the message coincided with renewed student protests across Iran, which began over the weekend at universities. The demonstrations follow earlier nationwide protests last December and January, which were met with a deadly crackdown.

Human rights groups say more than 7,000 were killed, while Iranian authorities acknowledge more than 3,000 deaths and claimed the violence was fuelled by “terrorist acts" supported by the United States and Israel.

The message also emerged as both countries prepare to resume indirect talks in Geneva on Thursday under Omani mediation, aimed at resolving disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Tehran says its nuclear work is for civilian use, while Washington and its allies suspect it is aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

The heightened rhetoric has sparked concern both inside and outside Iran. Countries including India, Sweden, Serbia, Poland, and Australia have advised their citizens to leave Iran.

The United States has also ordered non-essential personnel to leave its embassy in Lebanon, citing security risks linked to Hezbollah, which has close ties to Tehran.
