Director Harish Shankar confirms Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan, is an original story, not a remake of 'Theri'. Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan is gearing up for its grand theatrical release on March 26, 2027. For months, speculations were all on social media that the film was a remake of the Vijay's blockbuster 'Theri'. Director Harish Shankar has now put those rumours to rest.In a special video released online Harish Shankar clarified that the project is not a remake and is rooted in an original narrative. He stressed that the team never considered adapting any previous film.

Director says movies and politics are different

Harish also addressed another major rumour on whether the film will contain political references. Many fans believed the character of the protagonist might echo political tones because of Pawan Kalyan’s real-life political involvement. Harish Shankar explained, “A lot of people have asked. So, their doubt is, will there be political dialogues in the movie? Will there be political references and such dialogues? They asked. So, what I have to say clearly about this is, from day one, Pawan Kalyan has made movies like movies. Movies and politics are two different things. He has told us clearly from day one. We do not want politics as a reference. If we want entertainment, it should be a blast.

Why should we do that?”

Release date cleared

The team locked March 26, 2027, as the official release date. Initially, that coveted slot was taken by two major projects such as Ram Charan’s 'Peddi' and Nani’s 'The Paradise'. Both films were delayed due to pending shoots and this allowed 'Ustaad Bhagat Singh' to secure the date without competition.

The film features actresses Sreeleela and Raashii Khanna in the leading female roles. Music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

Story set around an honest cop and local politics

While Harish Shankar avoided political commentary within the script the core plot addresses challenges faced by an honest police officer. The narrative revolves around how the protagonist is sidelined due to local political interference, leading to conflict, drama and high-octane action.'Ustaad Bhagat Singh' is now the most awaited releases of 2027. On the other hand, Pawan Kalyan's previous outing was 'OG'.
