Uttar Pradesh’s annual Aam Mahotsav began in Lucknow on Friday, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurating the three-day festival at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar.

The festival, which will continue until July 5, showcases more than 800 varieties of mangoes from across Uttar Pradesh and several other states, highlighting the country’s rich mango diversity while promoting the state’s horticulture sector.

Officials said the event aims to provide a platform for mango growers, exporters and buyers to connect, strengthen market linkages and explore new business opportunities.

One of the key attractions this year is the Mango Buyer-Seller Conference, scheduled for July 4 at Jan Bhavan in Lucknow. The conference will bring together orchardists, exporters and domestic and international buyers to facilitate trade and expand market access for mango producers.

Apart from Uttar Pradesh, participants from Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are also taking part in the festival. Horticulture experts, exporters and progressive farmers are expected to participate in discussions on the future of India’s mango industry.

The Mahotsav will also feature a series of public events, including mango-eating competitions for children, mango-based culinary contests and exhibitions showcasing different mango cultivars.

For farmers and orchard owners, the festival will host technical workshops on scientific cultivation methods, pest and disease management, post-harvest handling, value addition and marketing strategies aimed at improving productivity and boosting exports.

Visitors will also be able to purchase mango saplings, with the state government encouraging people to plant more trees to promote environmental conservation and expand green cover.

Uttar Pradesh remains India’s largest mango-producing state, contributing more than one-fourth of the country’s total mango production. The state has also witnessed a rise in mango exports over the past year, driven by growing international demand.

To support the sector, the Uttar Pradesh government has been investing in modern pack houses, post-harvest infrastructure and quality-control mechanisms in major mango-growing districts. It has also rolled out several initiatives to help farmers improve productivity and access export markets.

Through the Aam Mahotsav, the state hopes to showcase the diversity and quality of its mangoes while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as India’s leading mango producer in both domestic and global markets.
