As rain batters Uttarakhand, CM Pushkar Dhami on Thursday announced that the Char Dham Yatra will temporary remain suspended. The Badrinath Highway is also blocked due to debris falling from the hill near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Life In Uttarakhand

Due to continuous heavy downpour in the state, the Yamunotri Highway has remained closed for the past five days as debris has blocked the roads. As a result, nearly two dozen villages have lost connection with the tehsil and district headquarters.

In the Uttarkashi district, roads and pedestrian paths in eight villages of the Sarbadiyar Patti region have been severely damaged, causing major inconvenience to the residents.

Meanwhile, in Rishikesh, efforts are underway to remove encroachments from roads in preparation for the upcoming Kawad Yatra.

In Chamoli district, the Badrinath National Highway has been disrupted at three locations — Pipalkoti, Nandprayag, and Umatta — due to landslides. Work is currently in progress to clear the debris and restore traffic flow.

The mountain regions have been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall since last night, worsening the situation further.

Kedarnath Road Blocked

On Thursday, the Uttarakhand government said that the road to Kedarnath was also blocked due to debris and stones falling in the Munkatia Sliding Zone under the Sonprayag area.

“The Yatra will resume once the road is cleared", Rudraprayag police said in their X post.
