In a major decision ahead of the Char Dham Yatra 2026, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has prohibited the entry of non-Hindus into 47 temples under its jurisdiction, including the prominent shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath.
The resolution was passed during the BKTC’s budget meeting on March 10 at its camp office in Dehradun. Chaired by BKTC President Hemant Dwivedi, the meeting also approved a budget of Rs 121.7 crore for the financial year 2026-27.
President Dwivedi stated that the demand for such a restriction had been longstanding, adding that only those who follow Sanatan Dharma and have faith in Baba Kedarnath and Badri Vishal are welcome. He confirmed that entry of non-Hindus into the sanctum sanctorum and premises of the 47 temples is now officially prohibited.
Registrations Open For Char Dham Yatra
The Uttarakhand government on Friday launched the online registration portal for the Char Dham Yatra, allowing devotees to sign up for the annual Himalayan pilgrimage.
Compulsory digital registration has been introduced across multiple platforms to help manage the large influx of pilgrims visiting the temples each year.
The registration process began at 7 AM and is mandatory for all pilgrims planning to visit the shrines. The pilgrimage will start on April 19 with the opening of the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri temples.
Kedarnath temple will open three days later on April 22, while Badrinath temple will welcome devotees from April 23.
