Valpoi cop seeks money from plaintiff to settle case, suspended

Valpoi: A police head constable attached to Valpoi police station has been placed under suspension with immediate effect following allegations of misconduct.Sources said head constable Rupesh Malik has been accused of allegedly demanding money from a complainant claiming that he had settled his case that had been recently registered.The North Goa SP issued a wireless message on Sunday announcing Malik’s suspension with effect from Sep 14 and that a formal suspension order would be issued subsequently. The reason for suspension is not mentioned in the wireless message. Further investigation into the allegations is expected to continue in the coming days.In the last five years, Goa police received complaints against over 200 police personnel for their alleged involvement in different crimes, including corruption.
