Varanasi court orders fraud case against Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh and associates - Reports

A Varanasi court has ordered an FIR against Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh and three others following a complaint by businessman Vishal Singh, who alleges he was cheated of his investment in the 2018 film "Boss" and threatened when asking for his share of the profits.

Following a complaint from a local hotel owner, a Varanasi court has ordered the police to initiate fraud proceedings against Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh and three additional individuals, as reported by The Hindu. Court Order Issued on Businessman’s PetitionOn August 13, 2025, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-II court issued the order after considering a petition submitted by businessman Vishal Singh. This information has recently surfaced. According to Vishal Singh’s lawyer, Ashish Singh, his client was cheated through a false investment claim related to the 2018 movie "Boss."Introduction to Film Project and Investment PersuasionThe lawyer stated that in 2017, Vishal Singh encountered Mumbai-based film director Prem Shankar Rai, who then introduced him to various individuals linked to the project. It is claimed that Vishal Singh was encouraged to invest in the film with assurances of financial gains, including a meeting arranged with Pawan Singh to persuade him.Details of the Investment and Producer StatusAccording to reports, the complainant stated that he transferred approximately ₹32.60 lakh from his own and his brother’s company into multiple accounts. In July 2018, he was named a producer of the film and promised a 50% share of the profits. Subsequently, he invested an additional ₹1.25 crore into the project.Alleged Denial of Profit Share and ThreatsDespite the film being released, Vishal Singh reportedly did not receive his promised share of the profits.

The businessman also claimed that when he asked for his payment, actor Pawan Singh threatened him with death.Court Directs FIR After Police InactionAfter the complainant’s concerns were ignored by the Cantonment police station and the police commissioner, he approached the court. The court then ordered the police to file an FIR against Pawan Singh and three others on charges of fraud.
