Vasco jeweller accused of withholding gold after loan repayment

Vasco: A woman from Headland-Sada, Mormugao has lodged a complaint against a jeweller for failing to return her gold ornaments after repaying the amount she had borrowed from him.In her complaint to the Mormugao police, Bhagyashree Mesta alleged that she, along with her relative, had taken a gold loan from jeweller Bhimappa Chalwadi, proprietor of PBC Jewellers, Headland-Sada, on June 5, 2025, by pledging 224 grams of gold worth Rs 30 lakh.However, the complainant repaid Rs 16.9 lakh through UPI transactions and also by mortgaging her old gold ornaments between Jan and April this year to the jeweller.But the accused has not returned the gold ornaments belonging to the complainant and her relative, thereby breaching her trust and causing wrongful loss to her.Police said the jeweller’s modus operandi is to give gold loans to customers and, when it comes to returning the pledged ornaments after repayment, he delays the process by making false promises.PSI Suraj Naik is investigating the case.
