Ahead of the seat-sharing talks with the DMK, the high-level committee of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Monday (March 23, 2026) passed a resolution, seeking seats in “two digits” for the 2026 Assembly election and a Rajya Sabha seat in 2028.

The resolution came after the DMK sought to restrict the number of seats for its allies to accommodate new entrants, including the DMDK  and the Makkal Needhi Maiam.

The resolution pointed out that the VCK had been part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and “has made a very significant contribution to its victories since 2019”. It urged VCK founder  Thol.  Thirumavalavan to secure the aspired number of seats.

The VCK’s fresh demand appears to be in response to the DMK’s  decision to accommodate the DMDK’s and Congress’s demand for more seats in the Assembly and one seat in the Rajya Sabha, even while making a low-ball offer to the VCK, though Mr. Thirumavalavan is at the forefront of opposition to the “fascist and Sanathan” forces in the State.
