The vendor who served jhalmuri to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bengal has alleged that he is receiving threatening phone calls from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Vikram Shaw claimed that unknown callers have been repeatedly contacting him and using abusive language over the phone.
Speaking about the alleged harassment, Shaw said he had received calls from Pakistan threatening him with violence.
“They are calling from Pakistan and threatening to blow me up with a bomb… I did not say anything to them, I simply disconnected the call. Then another call comes from Bangladesh asking whether I am alive or not. They are continuously harassing me. I am receiving several calls from unknown numbers where abusive and vulgar language is being used…" he said.
Shaw came into the spotlight earlier after he served jhalmuri to PM Modi during one of the prime minister’s public visit to Bengal ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

The vendor has alleged that the threatening calls have been continuing for some time and claimed that the callers were speaking from international numbers linked to Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Shaw became widely known during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign after PM Modi made a surprise stop at his roadside stall in Jhargram on April 19 and ate jhalmuri, a popular Bengali street snack. The moment quickly went viral and later became a political talking point during the elections.
The snack later emerged as a major symbol in the Bengal poll campaign, with BJP leaders and workers using jhalmuri during celebrations, rallies and victory events after the party’s strong performance in the state elections. PM Modi himself had referred to the incident during campaign speeches, saying, “I ate jhalmuri, but TMC felt the jhal (spice)."
Following PM Modi’s visit, Shaw’s stall saw a huge rise in visitors, with long queues forming outside the shop and the vendor gaining nationwide recognition.
