Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan underscored the need to reaffirm the values of equality, social reform and cultural rootedness saying that India’s progress should draw strength from the ideals of great reformers and their consistent practice in daily life.

Addressing a gathering at the 75th birth anniversary celebrations of Basavalinga Pattadevaru, head of the Hiremath Samsthan, at Bhalki in Bidar district on Wednesday, he described Bidar as a historic centre of learning and spiritual movements and recalled the enduring influence of Basaveshwara who opposed social discrimination and worked towards building an equal society.
