Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will celebrate its 31st Foundation Day along with the Nasha Muktha Bharath Abhiyan and International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Sunday, at Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru.
Vice-President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan will grace the occasion as the chief guest. The Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of the university, Thaawarchand Gehlot, will preside over the programme.
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S. Abdul Nazeer, will be present as distinguished guests.
Sharanaprakash R. Patil, Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development and the Pro-Chancellor of the university, and U. T. Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, will also grace the occasion.
Addressing the media on Friday, RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Bhagavan B.C., stressed that educational institutions play a vital role in promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing drug abuse through awareness, counselling, and community engagement.
He further stated that the campaign encourages students to act as ambassadors for a drug-free society by spreading awareness among their peers and within their communities.
Dr. Bhagavan explained the University’s continued commitment to the objectives of the Nasha Muktha Bharat Abhiyan and highlighted ongoing efforts to organise awareness programmes, workshops, seminars, and outreach activities across affiliated colleges to educate students on the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The Foundation Day celebrations will conclude with a collective pledge by participants to uphold the values of academic excellence, ethical healthcare, and social responsibility, and to contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free India, he briefed.
