Two school-going sisters were injured after falling from a moving KSRTC bus in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district while on their way to write their Class 12th (SSLC) examination, reportedly after the vehicle’s door suddenly opened near a curve.

The incident occurred in Beltangady taluk, where the bus was allegedly overcrowded, forcing the girls to stand near the entrance. As the vehicle navigated a bend, the door is said to have flung open, causing both to be thrown onto the road.

The sisters sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is not immediately known. The incident, caught on video, has raised fresh concerns over passenger safety and overcrowding on state-run buses.

In a separate accident, 36 people were injured after a private bus allegedly went out of control and plunged off a bridge in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district on Monday, police said.

The incident took place around 1.30 pm near Kagehalla in Veerapura village of Bhadravati taluk. The bus was travelling from Channagiri in Davanagere district to Bhadravati when the driver reportedly lost control near a bridge over a stream.

The vehicle hit the side barrier and overturned into the stream below, which had a low water level. All 36 occupants, including the driver and conductor, sustained injuries. Of them, 25 suffered minor injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Police have registered a case at the Bhadravati Rural police station and launched an investigation into the incident.
