Multiple videos circulating on social media platform X show the immediate aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha on Tuesday, reportedly targeting senior Hamas leaders.

According to Israel’s military, the strikes were aimed at senior members of Hamas’s political bureau who were residing in Qatar. The rare and unprecedented attack marks the first Israeli military action on Qatari soil.

Qatar, a key US ally and one of the main mediators in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, condemned the strike. The Qatari Foreign Ministry described it as a “cowardly attack" and a “flagrant violation of international law," asserting that the targets were residential buildings housing members of Hamas’s political leadership.
“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings housing several members of the political bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari in a statement on X.
Two Hamas officials told Reuters that members of the group’s ceasefire negotiating team survived the attack. However, Israeli officials claimed the strikes were specifically intended to eliminate top Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya, the exiled Gaza chief and a senior figure in Hamas’s political wing.
The airstrikes targeted a residential compound near Doha’s Legtifya petrol station, a location that had been under 24-hour guard by Qatar’s Emiri forces since the Gaza war escalated. Witnesses reported hearing multiple blasts, and emergency vehicles flooded the area within an hour of the attack. At least five ambulances and over 15 police and government vehicles were seen at the site, the agency reported.
The strike comes less than two weeks after Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir publicly vowed to target Hamas leaders abroad. “Most of Hamas’s leadership is abroad, and we will reach them as well," he stated on August 31.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the operation was entirely Israeli-led, “Today’s action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation," a statement from Netanyahu’s office read.
“Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it and Israel takes full responsibility," the statement added.
