Relentless monsoon rain has triggered widespread flooding in the Vasai-Virar region on the outskirts of Mumbai, with Palghar district recording over 200 mm of rainfall each day for the past four days. More than 1,000 buildings, including 80 to 100 in Anand Nagar, have been inundated, while submerged electrical infrastructure has left nearly half the region without power. Residents are grappling with shortages of food and drinking water, major roads such as the Vasai-Nalasopara Link Road remain under water, and train services between Vasai and Virar are running around 30 minutes behind schedule, disrupting daily commuters and leaving many stranded.
