Vietnam Boat Tragedy: Fifteen Indian tourists were killed after a tourist speedboat capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island on Saturday, according to details released by the Indian Embassy in Hanoi.

The vessel, carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members, overturned while returning to An Thoi Port from a sightseeing trip near the popular island destination in the Gulf of Thailand.

The accident claimed the lives of 15 Indian nationals, while 21 others were rescued. Among the survivors were 17 passengers and all four crew members. Authorities said all 36 people on board have been accounted for, though two survivors remain in critical condition.

Among those killed were 10 tourists from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala.

Rescue And Relief Efforts Underway

Vietnamese authorities launched a rescue operation soon after the vessel capsized. Emergency teams, including marine rescue personnel and local authorities, were deployed to search for passengers and provide medical assistance to survivors.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi said it is closely coordinating with Vietnamese authorities and extending all possible assistance to the affected families.

The tragedy has shocked the Indian community and comes at a time when Vietnam is witnessing a sharp rise in Indian tourist arrivals, with more than 7.4 lakh Indians visiting the Southeast Asian nation in 2025.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
