Light showers and thunderstorms on Sunday evening (May 24, 2026) provided temporary relief to the residents of Vijayawada, as temperatures soared to 44.4°C on Monday (May 25), making it difficult for many to go about their work.
According to the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority, Vijayawada Central and East recorded 44.4°C, Vijayawada North recorded 43.8°C, while the West recorded 44°C on Monday. Similar temperatures may continue on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
Meanwhile, a day after strong winds created chaos in the city, people had to deal with extreme heat and power disruptions. Electricity officials continued to work on fixing damaged poles until late evening on Monday.
According to information, in the Ramavarappadu section alone, 17 electric poles and four transformers were damaged, causing widespread power disruptions. Sixty workers were engaged in repairing the poles. Power disruptions were reported from other parts of the city, too.
The strong winds also felled trees and many branches, blocking the roads in a few areas. According to data from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), 35 trees, 42 flex boards, one board, and one LED display device had fallen in the city due to the strong winds. All of these were cleared by Monday morning, municipal officials said.
