Vikas Khanna’s mother recalls her son's painful childhood surgery; says, ‘He cried so much’

Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna has often spoken about overcoming challenges in life. In a recent appearance on Curly Tales, his mother shared one of the most difficult moments from his childhood, recalling how he underwent surgery just a few weeks after birth because he was born with both feet turned inward.

She revealed that Vikas was born with a foot condition that required surgery when he was just a few weeks old, sharing the emotional journey their family went through to ensure he could walk.“When he was born, both his feet were like this. Normally, babies’ feet are straight, but his weren’t. People kept asking me, ‘What happened?’” she said. Determined to get him the best treatment, the family took Vikas to Delhi when he was only around 15 to 25 days old.“He was in the operation theatre. Back then, they didn’t give anesthesia. We were standing outside. He cried so much, so much,” she recalled, remembering the heartbreaking moment as doctors operated on the infant and put his legs in plaster. The treatment didn’t end there. His mother said she was equally terrified when it was time to remove the plaster because it had to be cut off using a medical saw.“Later, when we went to get the plaster removed, I was very scared because they cut it with a saw,” she shared. As Vikas grew older, he had to wear specially made corrective shoes to support his feet. Since he was still growing, the footwear had to be replaced regularly. “They had made a special shoe for him. But it wasn’t permanent because he was growing, so it had to be changed from time to time,” she explained.
