Vikramaditya Chaufla wins Willingdon Indian Racketlon Open
India skipper Vikramaditya Chaufla navigated through a competitive international field to claim the Willingdon Indian Racketlon Open trophy.
Chaufla, a decorated athlete with multiple World Championship medals, had to put in a tremendous effort to defeat compatriot Animesh Kejriwal in the final of the B category held over the weekend.
The final scoreline was 21–18, 21–10, 10–21, 19–18 in Chaufla’s favour.
The semifinal against Russian veteran Dmitry Dubovenko was a gripping battle of endurance before the Indian emerged victorious with scores of 9–21, 21–16, 21–16, 21–17.
Racketlon is a rapidly growing sport that requires competitors to play four racket sports: table tennis, badminton, tennis, and squash.
The tournament — an international Super World Tour event — was held alongside the World Tour Finals, featuring the world’s top eight men and women.
The championship was organised by the Willingdon Sports Club under the guidance of Ajoy Bhandare and Nikhil Bhandare.
Contributions from RISA president KK Cheema (India’s governing body for the sport) and FIR chief Duncan Stahl (the sport’s global governing body) were also instrumental to the success of the event’s second edition.
