Viral video leads to arrest of 4 for sexually harassing woman on bike in Jaipur

JAIPUR: City police Sunday arrested four men for sexually harassing a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle on April 9, after a video of the incident went viral on social media and triggered widespread outrage.Deputy commissioner of police (Jaipur South) Rajrishi Raj Varma identified the accused as Manraj Meena (24) and Sudama Meena (24), both residents of Ranipura village in Tonk district, Mahesh Banjara (19), also from Ranipura in Tonk, and Lokesh Banjara (21) from Kirtipura village in Dausa district.Officials said the accused deliberately targeted the woman with the intent to outrage her modesty and attempted to disrobe her while she was riding pillion on a bike.Varma said after video of the incident surfaced it was quickly verified by NCRB and cyber teams, which confirmed that the crime occurred within the jurisdiction of Muhana police station. Based on this, police registered a case under multiple BNS sections including 74 (criminalises assault or the use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), and also of the Motor Vehicles Act.According to police, the incident took place when the woman was travelling from Surajmal Circle towards New Sanganer Road on a motorcycle.

The accused, riding another bike, followed her closely. One of them intentionally touched her back and then tried to pull up her shirt from behind in a bid to strip her, an act police described as deliberate and aimed at outraging her modesty.Additional DCP Lalit Kumar Sharma and ACP (Mansarovar) Aditya Kakade supervised the operation, while a special team led by Muhana SHO Gur Bhupendra Singh was formed to identify and track down the accused.Police scanned footage from more than 500 CCTV cameras across the area and along possible escape routes. Based on the suspects' appearance, teams conducted extensive field verification and questioned several individuals before zeroing in on the accused.Investigators said the accused were on the run since the incident, frequently changing locations and altering their appearance to evade arrest. They were eventually traced and arrested after sustained efforts by the police teams.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
