A viral video circulating on social media has triggered alarm over campus safety at BRAC University in Dhaka, after an escalator inside the university premises suddenly malfunctioned and sped up while students were using it.The incident occurred when the escalator abruptly began moving at an unusually high speed, apparently due to a technical fault, sending students into panic. Several students were on the escalator at the time the malfunction happened. The 16-second clip shows one side of the escalator operating normally, while the adjacent side accelerates sharply. Students stepping onto the faster-moving escalator struggled to maintain their balance.

Some were seen rushing to step off at the landing, struggling to maintain their balance.

Shouts of “move, move, move” can be heard in the video as frightened students clutched the handrails or held onto one another in an effort to steady themselves. Screams from both those on the escalator and nearby onlookers heightened the sense of chaos captured in the footage.Following the clip’s widespread circulation online, social media users raised concerns about possible technical failures and the safety of campus infrastructure. The university has yet to issue an official statement explaining the cause of the malfunction or outlining the safety measures currently in place.
