Vishnu Edavan praises Nayanthara’s sharp script sense, saying, 'She will notice even a small change'

Lyricist Vishnu Edavan has written several trending songs in recent Tamil films. Tracks like 'Naan Ready' from 'Leo,' 'Por Kanda Singam' from 'Vikram,' and 'Monica' from 'Coolie' helped him gain recognition among music lovers.

Now, he is taking the next big step in his career by directing the film 'Hi.' The film stars Nayanthara and Kavin in the lead roles. Speaking about the project, Vishnu said the story was written especially with Nayanthara in mind.

Vishnu Edavan reveals why the film was titled ‘Hi’

The filmmaker also spoke about the simple and unique title of the movie during an interaction with Cinema Vikatan. According to him, the film itself is a feel-good love story, and he wanted a title that felt natural and relatable.

“I love feel-good films like ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ and ‘Santhosh Subramaniam.’ My first film is also a feel-good family drama,” he said. While thinking about different titles, the team realised that the word 'Hi' itself was perfect for the story.

Vishnu explained, “In our daily life, it is impossible to go through a day without saying the word ‘Hi.’ It is a simple word that everyone uses naturally.” That idea eventually led the team to finalise the title.

Director praises Nayanthara’s dedication and script knowledge

Vishnu Edavan also spoke about his experience directing Nayanthara for the first time. He said the actress made him feel comfortable despite this being his debut film. “I should thank Nayanthara ma’am. She believed in this story so much that she also became a producer,” he said. The director added that Nayanthara has strong knowledge of scripts and always pays attention to every detail. “If I change even a small thing from the script, she will immediately notice it and ask why,” he revealed.

Vishnu also mentioned that the actress helped him communicate ideas to senior actors on set whenever he felt hesitant.

A fresh love story with Kavin and a strong supporting cast

Talking about the casting, Vishnu said he wanted a surprising pairing for the film. Instead of choosing a typical hero, he felt that Kavin would bring something fresh to the story. “This is not a film where only one character is important.
