Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, in the revised budget, has earmarked ₹173.77 crore for sports and youth welfare.
The budget has unveiled an ambitious project to train sportspersons from the State for the 2036 Olympics.
The proposed ‘Vision 2036’ project aims at identifying talent at a young age and providing them with world-class facilities, rigorous training and exposure to national and international competitions.
The Government has allocated ₹50 crore for constructing an ultra-modern international stadium in the Malabar region.
The facility will also house a football academy. There is also a proposal in the budget for constructing an international stadium in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam.
To stop the menace of drugs in campuses, the Government proposes the full utilisation of playgrounds in colleges for sports activities. The Government will make it mandatory for college students to engage in sports or take part in NCC.
The budget has also earmarked ₹eight crore for improving the physical fitness of school students. The Government will integrate sports into the school curriculum, utilising the services of retired coaches for training school students.
