Vizianagaram District Collector B.R. Ambedkar and Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan will hold a crucial meeting in the third week of July to resolve the compensation issue with regard to the Jindal South Aluminium Limited Project which will be established at Kothavalasa in the district.

According to sources, the government is sticking to its original stand of payment of compensation to the landowners in accordance with the rates prevailing in the year 2007 when around 1,100 acres of land acquisition was done for the establishment of the factory.

In spite of pressure from several political parties, the officials made it clear that it would not be possible to make payments at current rates and under the rules and regulations of the Land Acquisition Act-2013.

The Collector said that only 11 farmers had intentionally delayed the process with the hope of getting more compensation for their properties. He hoped that the payment process might be completed soon and all other issues would be resolved in the next meeting.

Mr. Sedhu Madhavan requested the political parties to cooperate on the issue since the government wanted to protect the interests of farmers and villagers also.
