Volkswagen India recently revealed the new Volkswagen Taigun facelift SUV in the Indian market. The Pre-bookings are open, interested customers can book the new SUV online or by visiting their nearest dealerships, with booking amounts ranging from Rs 11,000 to Rs 50,000.

The SUV gets a new fresh design inspired by global VW models, a tweaked interior with additional features, safety and a new 8-speed automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre TSI engine aimed at improving fuel efficiency. Prices have not yet been announced and are expected to be revealed sometime next month. Showroom previews and test drives are also likely to begin soon.

The Volkswagen Taigun facelift continues its competition with the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra and Renault Duster.

In this article, let’s take a look at the changes and improvements the new Taigun gets over the old model.Design In terms of design, the updated Taigun introduces a series of exterior revisions, including changes to the headlights and bumpers, while dropping fog lamps. A slim light bar with an illuminated VW logo has been added at the front, aligning its design with larger models in the brand’s global portfolio. Along the sides, the overall shape remains unchanged, with updates limited to new designs for the 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The GT badge has been moved from the front fenders to the doors, and the 1.5 TSI variants now feature rear disc brakes with red brake callipers.

Design differences

At the rear, the SUV gets updated tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators and a revised bumper. A connecting light bar with an illuminated VW logo spans the tailgate, while the trim between the taillamps now features a textured finish. The colour range has also been expanded with the addition of Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey.

These are offered alongside existing shades such as Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Deep Pearl Black, Lava Blue, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel and Carbon Steel Matte.

Together, these updates give the SUV a more mature and premium appearance, while also bringing incremental functional improvements that enhance its overall appeal.Interior, features & safety The Taigun facelift retains its existing dashboard layout but adds updated trims, new two-tone interior themes and up to six upholstery options depending on the variant.

It introduces a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with turn-by-turn navigation, along with an updated 10.1-inch infotainment system featuring improved graphics and a more responsive interface. The system also supports AI-based functions for real-time information, enhanced voice commands and hands-free operation.

Interior

Volkswagen says the air-conditioning system has been revised to improve cooling performance.

Feature availability varies by variant, with higher trims getting a panoramic sunroof, while lower variants continue with a single-pane unit. The model does not offer rear seat massaging, which is available on the Skoda Kushaq. Other features such as powered and ventilated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ambient lighting and rear AC vents continue to be offered.

The front parking sensors are offered on all variants except the base trim, while a rear washer, wiper and defogger are now standard.

The 1.5 TSI variants also receive disc brakes. Safety features remain unchanged with six airbags, ESC and ABS with EBD as standard, and the model retains its 5-star Global NCAP rating. An ADAS suite is not available, with a rear-view camera as the only assistance feature.The updates focus on improving usability, comfort and convenience, with a larger digital display and an updated infotainment system offering better responsiveness and access to information.

AI-based features and improved voice controls are aimed at easing day-to-day use, while revisions to the air-conditioning system are intended to enhance cabin cooling. Higher variants now include a panoramic sunroof, and the base trim continues to offer a comprehensive set of features.

These changes bring the interior in line with current segment expectations.Powertrain The SUV continues with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 115hp and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150hp, with no change to the engine line-up. The 1.0 TSI variant now gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox in place of the earlier 6-speed torque converter, with Volkswagen claiming a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 5.8 per cent. The 1.5 TSI engine continues with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The new 8-speed torque converter is expected to improve efficiency by allowing the engine to operate more effectively across a wider range of speeds, aiding fuel economy and smoother performance in daily use.
