Chennai: Water technology pioneer VA TECH WABAG Limited (WABAG) has secured Design, Build and Operate (DBO) contract for the Doha SWRO Desalination plant. This marks WABAG’s entry into Kuwait, as it looks to expand its footprint in the Middle East.
The project involves designing, engineering, procuring, constructing and commissioning of a 60 MIGD (272 MLD) Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant with a state-of-the-art Recarbonation system. WABAG has a 36-month schedule for this, including a five-year operation and maintenance period. The company will be executing this through an unincorporated Joint Venture with Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company K.S.C. (HEISCO).
This landmark order cements WABAG’s leadership in the desalination sector, as the Chennai-headquartered company continues to bag orders in the region with the latest being from Saudi Arabia in December 2025.
“The Doha SWRO II Project marks a significant milestone in WABAG’s growth journey in the GCC region and our maiden entry into Kuwait, a strategically important market. We are honoured to have been entrusted by the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy with the delivery of this critical project, which will play a vital role in strengthening Kuwait’s water security. This landmark win reinforces our growing leadership in the Middle East desalination market and underscores our commitment to enabling a more water-secure and sustainable future through advanced and energy-efficient desalination solutions.” Mr. Rohan Mittal, Head, Strategy and Business Growth , GCC, said in a press release.
