By using natural ingredients from your kitchen, you can darken your greying hair and add shine and strength to your locks without any chemical damage. Here’s all you need for this magical fix:

Ingredients:

  • Curry leaves (1 small cup)
  • Cloves/laung (8 to 10 pieces)
  • Fennel flowers/kalonji (two tablespoons)
  • Camphor/kapur (5 to 7 pieces)
  • Indian gooseberry/amla powder (1 tablespoon)
  • Cotton sheets (two pieces)
  • Mustard oil/sarso ka tel
  • Coconut oil/nariyal ka tel

Amla and curry leaves are known for their anti-ageing properties. They also promote the growth of melanin, the natural pigment that gives hair its colour and slow down the premature greying of hair. Amla also reduces dandruff, and itching while curry leaves are rich in antioxidants.Coconut oil improves hair health by nourishing and moisturising the strands, taming dryness and fizz, and restoring shine to damaged hair. Mustard oil acts like a natural conditioner for the hair and is rich in antioxidants and vitamins.   • Lay out the cotton sheets on a steel plate in a position that makes an ‘X’.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the centre of the plate, on top of the cotton sheets.
  • Fold the cotton strips into a ball, securing the ingredients inside.
  • Place the ball in a diya and light it on fire with a matchstick.
  • Place steel glasses around the diya and keep a steel thali on top of them. The flame will deposit a black soot under the steel thali.
  • Scrape the soot from the thali and collect it.
  • Place a large bowl in a double boiler and add coconut oil, the collected soot and amla powder to it.
  • Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth and store it in a glass bottle.
