JJD President Tej Pratap Yadav on Friday alleged that his life was under threat and claimed that there could be a conspiracy to have him killed in collusion with opposition leaders. He also sought enhanced security and said that a petition regarding the matter had been filed in court.
He filed a complaint at the Secretariat police station against the former President of the RJD Student Wing, Akash Yadav, and seven others, accusing them of plotting his murder.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Tej Pratap Yadav claimed that four individuals had forcibly entered his residence. He said that attempts were made to apprehend them, but the intruders managed to escape before they could be caught.
“It’s possible that he (Aakash Yadav) wants to get me murdered in collusion with the opposition. Four people had forcibly entered my residence… By the time we tried to catch those people, they fled… I demand security, and we have also filed an application in court regarding security… If we have to meet the Chief Minister, we will meet," Tej Pratap Yadav said.
Claiming that his father, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, was unwell, Tej Pratap alleged that there was a conspiracy to kill both of them and further accused Akash Yadav of plotting to have him murdered.
“Efforts have been made to tarnish my image from the very beginning. My father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, is unwell, and this is a conspiracy to kill my father and me. Akash Yadav wants to get me murdered," he added.
The JJD leader reiterated his demand for security arrangements and indicated that he was prepared to approach the Chief Minister if necessary. Authorities have not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav has also been booked after a complaint alleged that he forcibly entered a house in Patna, sought to meet a toddler he referred to as his “daughter", and threatened the family when they objected. Yadav has dismissed the accusations as “false and fabricated".
The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by a man who alleged that Yadav and one of his aides tried to enter his residence and insisted on meeting the child. The development comes over a year after a social media controversy involving Tej Pratap Yadav and a woman connected to the complainant’s family.
According to the complaint, the family refused to allow the meeting, following which Yadav allegedly threatened to have the child abducted. The complainant further alleged that the former minister cited his political clout, claimed that no FIR could be lodged against him, and warned the family against approaching the police.
The complainant also stated that he later received a phone call from a person claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Confirming the registration of the FIR, Patna ASP (Law and Order) Divyanjali Jaiswal said the complainant had informed police that the threat call originated from a US number. She added that investigators were examining CCTV footage, call details and voice notes, while also probing the alleged Bishnoi gang connection.
Rejecting the allegations, Tej Pratap Yadav said in a social media post, “It is extremely unfortunate that the person who was legally served a notice regarding his abusive, threatening and anti-social behaviour has, instead of admitting his mistake or expressing regret, attempted to get a false and concocted FIR registered against me out of revenge". He said he had “full faith in the judiciary" and would not be intimidated.
The FIR comes months after controversy erupted over a Facebook post from Tej Pratap Yadav’s account claiming that he had been in a long relationship with a woman. Yadav later maintained that his account had been hacked, but the episode prompted his father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to expel him from the party.
