Commissioner of Police (CP) Sunpreet Singh has issued a stern warning to students, stating that strict criminal action will be taken against those found guilty of ragging in educational institutions. With the new academic year underway, Mr. Singh emphasised that ragging is a serious offence that can lead to severe consequences, including expulsion and criminal prosecution, which can harm a student’s future.

In a statement here on Sunday, the CP said that he had directed educational institutions to take proactive measures to prevent ragging, including establishing anti-ragging committees and squads to monitor and address incidents, special monitoring for newly admitted students, awareness campaigns, seminars and workshops to educate students about the dangers of ragging and setting up of 24/7 Helpline Numbers for students to report incidents without fear.

Mr. Sunpreet Singh urged students not to engage in harassment, misconduct or indecent activities towards fellow students and encouraged victims to report incidents to the principal, college management or the police.
