Warehouse, KMC tap in plaint against TMC ex-councillor

Kolkata: Jorabagan police has filed a case against Mira Hazra, former Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor of ward 21, for allegedly cheating a local businessman of Rs 1 lakh.The complainant, Shyam Babu Shaw (42), lives in the Strand Road area and owns a godown at 67/26 Strand Road. He had rented it to Jay Matadi Transport. Shaw said a public Ganga water tap stood in front of the godown gate and caused problems for the transport business.According to the complaint, Shaw went to Hazra in Jan 2025, when she was the local councillor, seeking help to remove or shift the tap. He alleged that Hazra asked for Rs 1 lakh to get the work done through the KMC.

Shaw claimed he paid the full amount in cash at Hazra’s home on Mathur Sen Garden Lane on Jan 25, 2025. He said Rakesh Ranjan, an independent witness linked to Hazra at that time, was present.Shaw alleged that Hazra did not do the work and did not return the money. He said he later had to spend more money to get KMC workers to move the tap. When he asked Hazra for a refund, she allegedly refused and threatened him.Police registered the FIR on June 22, after Shaw’s written complaint and an inquiry report by sub-inspector R Mondal.Hazra has been booked for cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal intimidation. People close to Hazra denied the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
