Golden State are in no mood for frivolity.
Steph Curry will sit out the All-Star Game in Los Angeles as the Warriors opt for caution with the star guard’s lingering right knee issue.
Golden State coach Steve Kerr confirmed Monday that Curry will also miss Wednesday’s home game against San Antonio, ruling him out through the All-Star break.
The goal is a return once the regular season resumes.
“He’s doing well," Kerr said. “It’s really kind of a day-to-day thing, so it’s hard to predict for sure whether he’ll be playing in that first game after the break, but that’s definitely the hope, and if he is, if he can get through everything this week, then that puts him on pace to be playing."
That target date is February 19, when the Warriors host Boston at Chase Center.
Curry, who turns 38 on March 14, has been dealing with patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee. He exited early from Golden State’s 131–124 loss to Detroit on January 30, with Kerr later revealing the issue had been bothering him for roughly a week.
Monday marked Curry’s fourth straight missed game and his 15th absence of the season.
The Warriors are 5–9 without him, with his missed time spread across a variety of issues: three games due to illness, five with a left quad contusion, one with a sore right ankle, one with a sprained left ankle, one with right knee inflammation, and now four tied to the current knee problem.
Golden State’s injury concerns don’t end there. Jimmy Butler, Curry’s backcourt partner, is also sidelined after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, suffered against his former Miami team on January 19.
For the Warriors, the priority is simple: rest Curry now, hope to have him ready when the games start to matter again.
