Lindsey Graham had long been one of the strongest critics of Iran in American politics. He consistently supported tougher sanctions on Tehran.

From Iran Threats to Poisoning Claims: Conspiracy Theories Swirl After Lindsey Graham's Death
As the world mourns the death of US Senator Lindsey Graham, Iran welcomed it, while conspiracy theories have emerged online over the circumstances surrounding the South Carolina Republican’s sudden death.
Iranian media carried a statement saying, “I congratulate the Iranian nation on warmongering anti-Iran US senator Lindsey Graham being sent to hell." Also, days before his death, Iran openly declared that he was a target.
The remarks came as speculation spread on social media, with some claiming Graham may have been poisoned or assassinated by Iran or Russia. No evidence has been presented publicly to support those claims.
Graham’s office confirmed his death on Sunday. In a statement, the Office of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said, “On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness. Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period."
The announcement has prompted widespread discussion online, particularly because Graham had recently travelled overseas to Ukraine.
According to posts circulating online, five days before his death the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had publicly threatened him. Graham had also travelled to Kyiv, where he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussed a new sanctions package against Russia. Reports further claimed he had been back in the United States for less than 24 hours before collapsing and later dying.
5 days ago, Senator Lindsey Graham posted about how the IRGC threatened to assassinate him. They threatened to assassinate me and President Trump as well with matching posters of our faces held by IRGC operatives at Khameini’s funeral that called for our heads to roll. Now,… https://t.co/nOhswRJG6I

Despite the speculation, some online users also suggested his death could simply have resulted from heart disease or clogged arteries.
Laura Loomer demands investigation
Conservative commentator Laura Loomer was among those who questioned the circumstances surrounding Graham’s death.
In a post on X, she wrote that the senator had been threatened by the IRGC just days earlier and questioned whether he could have been poisoned by a foreign adversary either while abroad or after returning to the United States.
She called for an investigation into his death, asking what was meant by the description of a “brief and sudden illness" and whether poisoning should be considered.
In another post, Loomer questioned whether Russia could have been involved, noting that Russia had sent a delegation to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral in Tehran while Graham had recently visited Ukraine to support sanctions against Moscow.
She wrote that there should be an investigation, saying there was reason to believe Graham may have been poisoned and that a toxicology report should be conducted because of recent threats against his life by foreign adversaries.
Rabbi Shmuley also raises questions
American author Rabbi Shmuley also reacted to Graham’s death.
Posting on social media, he wrote, “I’m not a conspiracy guy. But the death of Iran and Russia’s greatest foe, the GREAT LINDSEY GRAHAM, a day after he returned from Ukraine, stinks to high hell."

Why Iran opposed Graham?
Lindsey Graham had long been one of the strongest critics of Iran in American politics. He consistently supported tougher sanctions on Tehran, opposed efforts to revive nuclear agreements and argued that the United States should confront Iran instead of making concessions.
Graham was also a strong supporter of Israel against Iran.

Iranian officials reacted strongly to remarks he made in Israel in 2022, when he suggested more Iranian nuclear scientists could face “accidents" and compared Iran’s ideology with Nazism.
According to the information available, Graham’s repeated criticism of the Iranian government and his language towards Tehran turned policy disagreements into a direct political feud, prompting repeated public rebukes from Iranian officials whenever he commented on Iran.
