Hyderabad woman accuses husband Nawaz and in laws of forced religious conversion, rape, financial fraud and violence, alleges police inaction despite repeated complaints

A woman in Hyderabad has accused her husband and in-laws of forced religious conversion, sexual assault, and financial exploitation, alleging a pattern of abuse that began with deception.

Speaking to news agency ANI, the woman said she met the accused, Nawaz (alias Navadurga), in May 2021 when he approached her to rent a shop. She alleged he falsely claimed to have converted to Hinduism to gain her trust. The couple tied the knot on July 28 last year. The woman claimed that after the wedding, she was forced to convert to Islam and was renamed Nazeera.

She alleged that Nawaz, before their wedding, lured her to a resort under the pretext of meeting his family, where she was drugged and raped while unconscious. Thereafter, he allegedly captured her private photos and used them to blackmail her into marriage. “While you were unconscious, I got physical with you and did whatever I wanted," Nawaz told her upon being confronted.

Police Inaction Alleged As Woman Seeks Justice

She further accused him and his relatives of extorting around Rs 16.7 lakh, taking loans in her name, using her credit cards, and selling her land without consent. She estimated total losses of Rs 25–30 lakh and significant amounts of gold.

The complainant also alleged repeated physical violence, threats against her family, and coercion, including being forced to consume beef despite being a vegetarian and being compelled to undergo an abortion. She claimed she was routinely drugged and assaulted.

“In August, the Imam came to our home, and then the conversion happened. I was told to read Kalma, some verses from the Quran, also. They changed my name to Nazeera. They made me eat beef.. I am a vegetarian. I said no. They hit me. They fought and made my mother leave our home. The whole month I was in torture. He used to tear my clothes in front of his brothers. He took all my devices, my phones. I was pregnant in August, and they gave me medicine to abort the pregnancy. They used to hit me a lot. they didnt let me do any pooja at home. They physically harassed me. They used to mix something in my food, and I would lose consciousness," she alleged.

She named several family members as being involved and alleged that police failed to act on her complaint, registering only a “missing person" case. The woman said she first approached authorities in January but has yet to see action, claiming the accused has influence over local officials.
