In an inspiring initiative, Patna is metamorphosing waste into art with an innovative park beside Rajendra Prasad's memorial. Dubbed 'Bihar ka Gaurav', this Rs 15 crore endeavor will feature stunning replicas of historical landmarks and sculptures of revered personalities, all ingeniously crafted from scrap materials.
Patna: A waste-to-wonder park is being constructed near the memorial site of Dr Rajendra Prasad in Patna using scrap materials. The project, being implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (Buidco), covers around 10 acres and has an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore.
After completion, the site will be known as ‘Bihar ka Gaurav’. CM Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the park in Aug 2025, and the work is progressing rapidly, a Buidco official said. The park will feature 13 monument structures, including replicas of Maha Bodhi from Gaya, Vikramshila and Nalanda University. It will also house 14 sculptures of historical figures such as Emperor Ashoka, Shankaracharya, Mandana Mishra and Chanakya.
These installations are being created using discarded materials such as tyres, bangles, broken pipes, electrical waste, bottles and scrap metal sourced from Patna and Delhi.Eight artists are currently engaged in the project, including three from Bihar and others from Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal and Haryana. An artist associated with the work said, “Ten out of 14 sculptures are near completion, and 8 out of 13 monuments are 90% finished.”
The target for completing the main work has been set for April 25.The initiative aims to promote environmental awareness, encourage waste utilisation and support the Clean India Campaign. Buidco PRO Sweta Bhasker said the park will also have themed playgrounds, eating areas, gazebos, open seating arrangements, drinking water facilities and toilets for men, women and the handicapped.
