Every year, the arrival of the monsoon in India brings much-needed relief from the summer heat. The rains cool the air, nourish the soil, and replenish water bodies. But along with this welcome change come many other disruptions, and one among them is the insects and slithery beings who keep hidden in the soil for most of the year.As streets flood and water seeps into every corner of urban life, nature too reacts, and the creatures that usually remain hidden in burrows or forests suddenly come out into the open, leading to moments of unexpected encounters between people and animals.Urban flooding isn’t just about delayed traffic or soggy shoes. In cities like Mumbai, where rapid development meets heavy rainfall, nature finds its way into the chaos.Recently, something similar happened in Navi Mumbai when the streets were flooded with water during the first rains of during this monsoon season.A viral video showing a massive python swimming through rainwater on the streets of Navi Mumbai left viewers shocked and alarmed. As the large, venomous snake was seen moving through the flooded streets during the early onset of the monsoon season in Maharashtra this year.
Amidst the stagnant floodwaters, the giant python was seen slithering through the streets, as seen in a widely circulated video.
The flooded road is clearly visible, with the large green python emerging from the water. The reptile lifts its head above the surface, creating a chilling scene. Residents in the vicinity were visibly frightened, standing back along the roadside, wary of the snake's presence.Experts suggest that the heavy rains have forced reptiles out of their natural habitats. The rainwater often enters their burrows, compelling them to seek drier areas.
This often leads to an increase in snake sightings during the monsoon season.Every year, numerous snakebite incidents occur during the monsoon, some of which tragically result in fatalities. Delays in receiving treatment due to a lack of transportation, distant hospitals, or the unavailability of antivenom can turn snakebites fatal. Therefore, it is crucial to stay vigilant throughout the rainy season, especially in rural and farming areas, and take necessary precautions to avoid snakebites.Photo Credits: Instagram
