Water supply disruptions due to power outages in Thrikkakara, Kalamassery regions

Kochi: Power disruptions are interrupting water supply in many places in the district.The functioning of pumphouses at Kalamassery and Cusat, which supply water to various places in Kalamassery region and Thrikkakara municipality, respectively, was affected for two to three hours each in the last few days due to power outages.

This has caused scarcity of drinking water in several places in the region. Officials with Kerala Water Authority said there were not many issues due to power cuts in Kochi city area.Supply to several tail-end areas within the city is affected the most. “Water is being pumped to several tail-end areas once or twice a week, and when there is power disruption, it will take hours or days for water to reach such areas even after resuming pumping. This has resulted in lasting water shortage in tail-end areas,” a KWA official said.Earlier, the issue was reported from various places in local bodies such as Paravur municipality. Now, such issues are not being reported from there.
