Indian forward Sukhjeet Singh gave his parents a moment of pure joy on Sunday after scoring a stunning opening goal in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 final, helping India defeat Korea 4-1 and reclaim continental supremacy after eight long years.

Sukhjeet needed less than a minute to make an impact, finishing off a brilliant move that immediately put Korea under pressure and set the tone for India’s dominant performance.

Watching their son shine on one of hockey’s biggest stages filled his family with pride.

“I am very happy. We are happy that Sukhjeet Singh scored the goal. May God bless him. All the players played very well," said his mother, Kuldeep Kaur, speaking to ANI after the victory.

His father, Ajit Singh, credited the teamwork that led to the goal, saying: “I am happy. Captain Harmanpreet Singh gave a good pass and Sukhjeet Singh scored the goal. The Indian hockey team played well. I congratulate them."

India’s Long Wait Ends

The victory ended India’s eight-year wait for the Asia Cup crown, last won in Dhaka in 2017. Alongside Sukhjeet’s early strike, Dilpreet Singh netted twice (28’, 45’), and Amit Rohidas converted a penalty corner (50’). Korea’s lone reply came from Dain Son in the 51st minute.

The win also secured India’s qualification for the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium, adding extra significance to the night.

A Dominant Performance

Cheered on by a packed crowd at the Rajgir Sports Complex, India looked sharp from the first whistle. The coordination between defence, midfield, and attack flowed seamlessly, with constant circle penetrations leaving Korea on the back foot.

The visitors adopted a defensive stance, but it backfired against India’s relentless attack and rock-solid defence.
