The rebellion within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) appeared to deepen on Sunday, with rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claiming that two more parliamentarians were set to join the dissident camp, taking its strength in the Lok Sabha to 22.

Before leaving for New Delhi from Kolkata airport, Dastidar said the group had secured an appointment with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and would seek formal recognition as a separate parliamentary bloc.

Rebel Camp Claims Support Of 22 MPs

We are going to Delhi for a meeting. Twenty-two MPs are with us. The Speaker has given us time. We will meet him on Monday and seek recognition as a separate bloc," PTI quoted Dastidar as saying.

Although she declined to reveal the identity of the two MPs expected to join the faction, she indicated that their names would be made public after they formally align with the group.

TMC Rift Deepens After Poll Defeat

“Those who honestly voiced their opinions against the situation prevailing in West Bengal over the last four to five years have been in touch with us. Our number is now 22," she said.

PTI, citing sources, reported that a meeting of the dissident MPs, originally planned in Kolkata, will now be held in Delhi. While West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was expected to attend, he is unlikely to travel to Delhi due to an engagement related to the Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority.

The latest developments come amid continuing unrest within the TMC following the West Bengal Assembly elections. Earlier this week, rebel MPs openly challenged the party leadership and signalled support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.

A document carrying the signatures of 19 TMC MPs surfaced on Friday, with the signatories requesting recognition as a separate parliamentary group under Ghosh Dastidar’s leadership. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Speaker’s Secretariat regarding receipt of the letter.
