Weather News, Rains Today Live Updates: Heavy monsoon showers continued to batter several parts of India on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting an active spell across large parts of the country over the coming days.
In Delhi, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several areas as the IMD issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. The weather office said rain is likely to continue till July 9.
Mumbai and neighbouring regions witnessed relentless showers, triggering waterlogging, traffic snarls and disruptions to local train services. Following a red alert from the IMD, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for schools and colleges.
Several incidents of tree falls, house and wall collapses were reported in Maharashtra. The IMD has also issued red alerts for parts of Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Kerala.
Heavy rain affected Punjab and Gujarat, while Kerala remained on alert over rising river and dam levels. Odisha and West Bengal are also bracing for more heavy rainfall as the Bay of Bengal weather system is expected to intensify further.
