Wedding rasgullas leave toddler dead, 6 ill; food poisoning suspected

Bijnor: A two-year-old boy died and six others fell ill after consuming rasgullas in Jeetpur Khas village under the Nangal Soti police station area of Bijnor district.According to family members, 65-year-old Sudha Devi had brought the sweets home from a wedding ceremony five days earlier.

The rasgullas were later shared among relatives and neighbours.Soon after consuming them, seven people complained of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. Those affected included two-year-old Dev Kumar, six-year-old Kartik, four-year-old Ritik, four-year-old Pallavi, and neighbours Sandeep, his wife Neetu and their 12-year-old son Vansh.All were admitted to a private hospital in the village. During treatment, Dev died, while Pallavi remained under medical care.

The condition of the other people has improved.Circle officer Akanksha Gautam said, “A joint team of the police and health department has launched an investigation into the incident. Further legal action will be taken after a complaint is received and the inquiry report is submitted.”
