SIX KEY DECISIONS ANNOUNCED IN BENGAL

In his post, Adhikari described the Cabinet meeting as an “eventful first day at Nabanna" and said the government had “transformed promises into action."

Listing the decisions, the Chief Minister announced that Ayushman Bharat would finally be implemented in West Bengal, allowing residents of the state to receive benefits under the Centre’s healthcare programme.

He also announced the immediate transfer of land to the Border Security Force for border fencing work along the India-Bangladesh border, saying the process would be completed within 45 days.

Another major announcement related to employment opportunities for youth, with the state government increasing the upper age limit for state government job applicants by five years.

According to Adhikari, the move was aimed at helping those who lost opportunities during the previous regime.

The government also announced the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and gave approval for conducting the Census.

Adhikari further said that steps had been initiated for the welfare of families of 321 people who lost their lives “while standing for democracy in West Bengal."

He additionally said the state government would remove hurdles in implementing the Central government schemes in West Bengal.

AYUSHMAN BHARAT, CENTRAL SCHEMES TO BE IMPLEMENTED

According to an ANI report, six decisions were formally approved during the first Cabinet meeting chaired by Adhikari.

Speaking after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the transfer of land to the BSF would begin immediately and that the Ministry of Home Affairs would receive the land within 45 days.

He said the move would help complete border fencing and address the issue of illegal infiltration.

The West Bengal government had also initiated the process of implementing several major Central schemes in the state, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishak Bima Yojana, PM SHRI, Vishwakarma Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ujjwala Yojana.

District Magistrates were instructed to expedite applications linked to these schemes by forwarding them to the concerned Union Ministries.

ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES AND PORTFOLIO ALLOCATION

The new government moved quickly on administrative restructuring and portfolio allocation following the formation of the Cabinet.

Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh was assigned the Rural Development, Panchayats and Animal Resources Department, while Agnimitra Paul was given charge of the Women and Child Welfare Department, among other allocations.

The government further announced that IAS officers in the state would now participate in Central government training programmes and that West Bengal would fully align with provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Separately, the state government appointed IAS officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal as the new Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal.

The government also ordered the termination of nominated members, directors and chairpersons in non-statutory bodies and public sector undertakings, while ending re-employment and service extensions for officials serving beyond the age of 60 years.
