PM Modi, addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday (March 23, 2026) on key aspects of the ongoing West Asia conflict, termed the prevailing situation in West Asia “worrisome” as it is having a very adverse impact on the global economy and the livelihoods of people.

“The current situation in West Asia is worrisome. This crisis has been going on for more than three weeks, having a very adverse impact on the global economy and on people’s lives. The entire world is urging all parties to resolve this crisis as quickly as possible,” PM Modi said.

He also said that cargo movement through the Strait of Hormuz has been a challenge from the beginning of the war, yet the government is ensuring that gas and fuel supplies remain the least affected.

“We all know that India imports 60% of its LPG needs. Due to uncertain supply, the government is prioritising domestic supply. LPG production in the country is also being increased,” he said.

PM Modi also said that the Parliament of India should send a united voice on the West Asia crisis and added, “As far as diplomacy is concerned, India’s role is fairly clear adding that government has been advocating de-escalation of the ongoing war between Israel-U.S. and Iran.”

“Dialogue and diplomacy are solutions to West Asia crisis, our efforts are aimed at reducing tensions and ending conflict,” he noted. “The situation arising out of this war is going to be felt for a long time. We need to be prepared and remain united,” Mr. Modi added.

“Certain elements try to take advantage of the situation and that’s why law and order needs to be monitored carefully,” he noted.

The Congress on Monday (March 23, 2026) suggested that India lead peace talks in West Asia, and also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inform citizens of the steps being taken to tackle LPG shortages and rising inflation.

PM Modi also said that since the conflict began, every Indian in the affected areas has been provided with necessary assistance.

“I have spoken with most of the heads of state in West Asia over the phone in two rounds. And they have all assured the safety of Indians,” he said.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister said, some people have lost their lives, and some have been injured in the conflict.

“Help is being provided to the affected families,” PM Modi noted.

PM Modi on fertilizer, energy crisis

Talking about the impact of the war on agriculture, Mr. Modi said that the government has made adequate arrangements for fertilizers. He claimed that government didn’t allow the impact of Covid to be felt by farmers. The Prime Minister assured the farmers of India that the government will do everything possible to help them.

PM Modi also remarked on the energy crisis in Parliament saying that, in the last decade, India has prepared for times of crisis like this by prioritising storage of crude oil.

“Today, India has 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic reserve petrol. The country is running on reserves of 56 lakh metric tonnes available. This is separate from the oil companies’ reserves. Our refining capacity has also notably grown in the last 11 years,” he added.

On the West Asia conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "Because of such efforts, many of our ships that were stranded in the Strait of Hormuz have also arrived in India.
