With West Bengal’s 2026 Assembly election campaign entering a decisive phase, political parties have begun deploying their most recognisable faces across districts to consolidate support and shape the narrative ahead of polling.

From high-voltage rallies to targeted constituency outreach, the battle in Bengal is increasingly being driven by star campaigners—leaders who can cut across local contests and influence voter perception at scale.

TMC: Mamata anchors campaign as Abhishek steps up ground push

At the centre of the Trinamool Congress campaign is Mamata Banerjee, who continues to be the party’s principal vote-puller. Over the past week, Banerjee has intensified her rally schedule, addressing multiple meetings across south Bengal and reinforcing the party’s core message around regional identity and welfare delivery.

Alongside her, Abhishek Banerjee has taken on a more expansive campaign role. He has been leading constituency-level outreach, particularly in closely contested seats, and coordinating candidate-level mobilisation.

The TMC’s campaign strategy at this stage reflects a dual structure: Mamata Banerjee as the overarching face of the election, and Abhishek Banerjee as the key organiser driving on-ground momentum.

BJP: Suvendu leads state charge as central leadership gears up

For the BJP, Suvendu Adhikari has emerged as the party’s most visible state-level campaigner. His rallies in Nandigram, East Midnapore and parts of south Bengal have focused on direct attacks on the TMC government, positioning himself as the principal challenger to Mamata Banerjee.

At the organisational level, leaders such as Dilip Ghosh and Sukanta Majumdar have been active in district-level campaigning, particularly in north Bengal and party stronghold pockets.

The BJP is also expected to scale up the involvement of national leaders, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, as polling dates draw closer. Their rallies are likely to be concentrated in high-stakes constituencies where the party is looking to consolidate gains or make inroads.

Congress-Left: Limited star power, targeted mobilisation

In the Congress-Left space, campaign visibility remains more localised. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury continues to be the Congress’ most recognisable face in the state, campaigning in pockets of Murshidabad and central Bengal.

For the Left, Mohammad Salim has been leading the campaign, focusing on issue-based mobilisation—particularly unemployment, price rise and governance concerns.

Unlike the TMC and BJP, however, the Congress-Left campaign does not revolve around a single statewide crowd-puller, limiting its visibility in a personality-driven contest.

Campaign narrative shifts to personalities

As of early April, the Bengal campaign is increasingly defined by direct face-offs between leading figures rather than purely party-based messaging. Key constituencies such as Nandigram and Bhabanipur are being projected as symbolic battlegrounds, amplifying the role of star campaigners.

Across parties, the strategy is clear: deploy top leaders to maximise visibility, energise cadres and frame the election narrative in the final stretch before voting.

With more rallies, roadshows and high-decibel campaigns expected in the coming days, the role of star campaigners is set to become even more pronounced—turning the Bengal election into a contest not just of parties and policies, but of personalities commanding the political stage.
