The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board after a three month delay declared the results of the WBJEE exam on Friday (August 22, 2025) for undergraduate admissions to engineering, technology, pharmacy, and architecture courses in State-run and State-aided universities in West Bengal.

This unprecedented delay in results, which led to widespread anxiety among aspirants, was caused primarily due to the issue surrounding the State’s list of Other Backwards Classes (OBC) remaining pending in the Supreme Court. The examination was conducted on April 27.

However, a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court earlier this month directed the WBJEE Board to publish a fresh merit list by August 22, providing 7% reservation for the 66 classes of OBC candidates recognized by the West Bengal Backward Classes Department prior to 2010.

In May last year, the Calcutta High Court had struck down all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010.

“Due to legal complications, the announcement of results was delayed this year, compared to previous years. However, I have faith that you will overcome all adversities, achieve greater success, and make Bengal proud,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on social media, congratulating the candidates.

The WBJEE Results can be viewed and downloaded from wbjeeb.in and wbjeeb.nic.in

According to a statement by the WBJEE Board, a total of 1,01,643 candidates appeared for

WBJEE this year, of whom, 23,850 appeared from outside the State this year. Nearly half of the candidates who appeared were students of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, the statement said.

Aniruddha Chakrabarti of Don Bosco School in Kolkata’s Park Circus, ranked first. Of the ten toppers, four hail from Kolkata. Two toppers studied at Delhi Public School, Ruby Park.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her heartfelt congratulations to students who have successfully cleared the exam.

In a post on X, the CM said she was very happy that the results could be declared by the WBJEEB “with such promptness in the wake of an order by Hon’ble Supreme Court.” “Over one lakh students of the state will now be able to pursue their dreams to become future engineers and architects in the wake of the development,” she said.
