KOLKATA: People walking along the road in Bharatgarh, Basanti, witnessed a chilling sight on Saturday morning - a middle-aged man walking down the main road with a woman's severed head in one hand and a chopper in the other.

Bimal Mondal, 55, wearing a blue striped T-shirt, walked to the police station and told cops the head was that of his sister-in-law, Sati Mondal, whom he had murdered. Locals said there had been tension between the families of the woman and the accused for some time. Husband of the murdered woman reportedly died by suicide three months ago. Some claimed the families were at loggerheads over a property dispute. The bitterness reached a flashpoint on Saturday when Bimal attacked Sati with a chopper. According to Kamal Mondal, a local, a dispute over picking mangoes triggered the fatal attack.
