Benjamin Sesko scored late as Manchester United drew 1-1 at West Ham on Tuesday, ending Michael Carrick’s perfect start as manager. Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle increased pressure on head coach Thomas Frank.West Ham held on for most of the match and delayed a United fan’s vow to cut his hair only after five straight wins. The result helped West Ham’s fight to stay up, even though they missed out on all three points.

United had won four matches in a row since Carrick took charge until this draw. Those wins led to calls for him to stay on beyond the end of the season. However, West Ham limited United’s attack after Carrick’s side had beaten Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham in recent weeks.Tomas Soucek scored early in the second half from a Jarrod Bowen cross to put West Ham ahead.United equalised in stoppage time when Sesko flicked in a cross from Bryan Mbeumo.“We were not at our best,” Carrick said."We didn't have that sharpness to find the answers. Great spirit again and we will take the point and move on."United stay fourth in the table after Chelsea drew 2-2 with Leeds despite leading 2-0.West Ham moved to within two points of safety. Tottenham are now 16th, five points above the relegation zone.
