Elliot Cadeau gave Michigan fans a sudden scare on Wednesday, April 1. The junior guard was about to leave with the team for Indianapolis when things quickly changed. He told medical staff he might be having an allergic reaction.
Within minutes, he was taken off the team bus, placed on a stretcher, and moved into an ambulance outside the Player Development Center in Ann Arbor. A video shared by WWJ Newsradio 950 reporter Jon Hewett showed the moment clearly. Cadeau, 21, was covered with a white sheet as medical staff worked around him. The timing made it even more tense. Michigan is just days away from its Final Four game, one of the biggest moments of the season.Soon after, the university shared an update to calm everyone. Doctors checked him right away and confirmed he was fine. Still, they decided to keep him under medical watch for safety. The plan remained the same, Cadeau would travel later that day to join the team in Indianapolis.Elliot Cadeau suffers allergic reaction scare before Michigan Final Four trip, quickly cleared by doctors
“The doctors evaluated Elliot and he is fine,” the spokesperson said. “Out of an abundance of caution, he is receiving medical supervision and will be traveling to Indianapolis later today.”
That update brought relief. With such a big game coming up, any health issue could have changed everything. Michigan is set to face Arizona on Saturday, April 4, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The winner will move on to the national championship game on Monday, April 6, against either UConn or Illinois.
For now, all signs point to Cadeau being ready.
Elliot Cadeau’s strong season and bond with head coach Dusty May boost Michigan’s Final Four hopes
Cadeau has been one of the key reasons Michigan made it this far. The junior guard, who transferred from North Carolina, has played a steady and confident role all season. In 38 games, he is averaging 10.2 points and 5.8 assists while shooting over 37 percent from three-point range. He was also named to the All-Big Ten third team in March, showing how much his game has grown. After Michigan’s Sweet 16 win over Alabama, Cadeau made it clear he is not done in Ann Arbor. He said he “definitely” plans to return for his senior year.“I feel like I have different aspects to my game now, just being able to be a threat from the three-point line, being able to be more of a threat scoring just because I have freedom to do it,” Cadeau told TheWolverine.com.He also spoke about head coach Dusty May and why that relationship matters to him.“I like how he wants to develop his players and how he has so much confidence and trust in me,” Cadeau said on March 28. “He believed I was capable in leading my team to the Final Four, and I really wanted to play for a coach like that.”Cadeau added, “He’s a very generous person off the court. When I was moving in, he came to my apartment and helped, like moving furniture up [the stairs]. A lot of head coaches wouldn’t do that.”
